Fed: ALP promises to buy up key environment sites=2

Conservationists later praised Mr Beazley for making the environment an election issue
with his latest pre-poll promise.

"The ACF welcomes today's major biodiversity statement for putting the spotlight on
land clearing and salinity and their crippling social and environment effects," Australian
Conservation Foundation executive director Don Henry said.

"Both the federal government and the ALP have now made public commitments about implementing
land clearing controls although the government has yet to deliver on its promises.

"It is pleasing to see the greening of the ALP's Knowledge Nation platform and that
the environment will be a key issue in this federal election year."
