NSW: Carr slams country vote weighting as Bjelke-Petersen-styl=2

Nationals state director Michael Priebe later noted that the boundary commissioners
themselves had suggested a variation of five to 10 per cent from the average.

However this was not directed towards any particular area but rather intended to give
more flexibility and better reflect communities.

Mr Carr also expressed disappointment at the draft redrawing of electoral boundaries,
saying it would make Labor's job tougher in the 2007 election.

He cited Kiama, Port Stephens, Riverstone and Port Jackson - to be renamed Balmain
- as areas where Labor would be hurt the most.

"It makes it tougher but it's probably more of a status quo redistribution than a radical
overhaul," he said.
